Analyzing Rational Advisors LLC's 13F Holdings Comparison: Q3 vs Q4 2022

Ava Hoppe | 23 April, 2023

As we head into the fourth quarter of 2022, Rational Advisors LLC has provided its 13F holdings comparison between Q3 and Q4 of this year. The CSV file above highlights the changes in holdings of various securities within the firm. Let's take a closer look to understand what these changes indicate.

The first thing that stands out is that overall, there has been a decrease in the number of shares held, as well as a decrease in the value of these holdings. This decrease is reflected in the Chg% column, which shows a downward trend across most of the holdings. However, it is important to note that some securities have bucked this trend and increased in value and/or shares held.

One of the largest decreases in shares held comes from the SPDR Series Trust (SPAB), which saw a decrease of over 350,000 shares or a 6.2% decline. This is also reflected in the decrease in value of these holdings, which decreased by over $7,000.

Similarly, Vanguard BD Index Fund Inc (BND) and iShares (AGG) both experienced a decrease in shares held and a decrease in value. However, it's worth noting that the decrease in shares held for iShares (AGG) was more significant at over 93,000 shares or a 6.4% decline.

Turning our attention to the securities that saw an increase in value and/or shares held, we see that JP Morgan Exchange-Traded Fund (JEPI) and the Invesco Exchange-Traded Fund Trust (BAB) experienced significant increases of 25.3% and 58.5%, respectively.

Additionally, WisdomTree Trust (NTSX) saw an increase in shares held of almost 3%, which is reflected in the over $4,000 increase in the value of these holdings.

It's also interesting to note that some securities experienced little to no change in shares held, but saw a significant increase in value. Examples of this can be seen in Mastercard Inc (MA) and Oracle Corp (ORCL), both of which saw an increase in value of over $300.

However, it's not all good news. There were some securities that experienced significant decreases in value and/or shares held. For example, Vanguard Scottsdale Funds (VMBS) saw a decrease in shares held of over 500,000 or a decline of 62.3%. Interestingly, the decrease in value was not as significant, but still amounted to over $21,000.

Similarly, the iShares Trust (SHY) experienced a decrease in shares held of over 194,000 or a decline of 43.9%, which is reflected in the decrease in the value of these holdings by over $15,000.

Overall, these changes in holdings highlight how market trends and uncertainty impact investment decisions. While some securities experience significant gains, others are not so fortunate. As we head into the fourth quarter of 2022, it will be interesting to see if these trends continue or if there will be a shift in investment decisions.
