In this blog post, we'll delve into the changes in holdings of Auxier Asset Management's Q3 and Q4 2022 13F filings. Auxier Asset Management is a registered investment advisory firm based in Kentucky, founded in 1999 by Jeff Auxier. The firm manages over 800 million in assets and invests in publicly traded companies using a value-oriented approach.
According to the 13F filings, Auxier Asset Management's top five holdings, in terms of value, in both quarters were UnitedHealth Group, Microsoft Corp., Elevance Health Inc., Philip Morris International, and Kroger Co. These five firms accounted for more than 30% of the total portfolio value. However, there were some notable changes in holdings between Q3 and Q4 2022, which we'll explore below.
One of the most significant changes was the increase in the value of the Merck & Co. Inc holdings, with a 28.8% increase in the number of shares and a 28.4% increase in value. The holdings in Pepsico Inc. also saw an increase in value with 10.5% change. In contrast, holdings of Medtronic PLC declined with a 2.5% change in value.
Among the top holdings, there were some new acquisitions and sell-offs as well. In Q4 2022, Auxier Asset Management acquired 15 new holdings, including British American Tobacco, Booking Holdings Inc., and Dow Inc. Among these new holdings, British American Tobacco was the most significant, with a 43.1% change in value between Q3 and Q4 2022.
On the other hand, there were notable sell-offs in holdings of H&R Block Inc., with a -14.3% change in value, and Mosaic Company with a -9.2% change in value.
The financial sector remained the largest sector in the portfolio, representing approximately 20% of the total portfolio value in both quarters. However, there were some notable changes in the sector allocation between Q3 and Q4 2022. The value of holdings in the banking sector increased by 13.3%, whereas holdings in the insurance sector decreased by 5%.
In conclusion, Auxier Asset Management's Q3 and Q4 2022 13F filings show some interesting changes in the portfolio holdings, including new acquisitions, sell-offs, and changes in value. While the company's top holdings in Q4 mirrored those in Q3, there were significant changes both within and outside of the top 5 holdings. It will be interesting to follow these holdings and see how they perform in the future.
