Compass Capital Management's Q4 2022 13F Filing: Winners, Losers and New Entries Compared to Q3.

Ava Hoppe | 19 April, 2023

Compass Capital Management, Inc's latest quarterly 13F filing shows some changes to their holdings in Q4 2022 compared to the previous quarter. The 13F filings required by the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) from institutional investment managers with assets over $100 million are an excellent way for investors to keep track of a fund's holdings. The filing requires the company to provide a list of stocks and securities they own, both long and short.

In Q3 2022, Compass Capital Management had SYK (Stryker Corporation), TMO (Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.), and V (Visa Inc.) as their three largest holdings. By Q4 2022, they had all dropped down the list, with SYK and TMO dropping to 6th and 7th place, respectively, and V falling to 9th place.

The biggest mover among Compass Capital Management's holdings was ROP (Roper Technologies Inc.), which saw a 17.7% increase in value from $43,227,000 in Q3 to $50,881,000 in Q4. The second biggest mover was CHD (Church & Dwight Co Inc.), which saw a 15.1% increase in value from $41,308,000 in Q3 to $47,529,000 in Q4. Following closely behind was ITW (Illinois Tool Works Inc.), which saw a 14.9% increase in value from $44,541,000 in Q3 to $51,158,000 in Q4.

On the other hand, CVS (CVS Health Corp) saw a 4.3% decrease in value from $50,367,000 in Q3 to $48,186,000 in Q4, making it the biggest loser among Compass Capital Management's holdings. Other losers include DIS (Disney Walt Co) which saw a 6.9% decrease in value, and SPY (SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust), which saw an increase in shares but a decrease in value from $18,525,000 in Q3 to $4,139,000 in Q4.

When comparing the shares held by Compass Capital Management across both quarters, there were some notable changes. While most holdings saw minor fluctuations, some saw significant increases or decreases. For example, SPY saw a massive increase of 123.5% in the number of shares held, from 5,184 in Q3 to 10,824 in Q4. Meanwhile, LW (Lamb Weston Holdings Inc) saw the entry of 2,450 shares, while GIS (General Mills Inc) saw 2,400 shares added to the portfolio as well.

In terms of new positions, Compass Capital Management added 8 shares of BRK-A (Berkshire Hathaway Inc Del) and increased their holdings in AAPL (Apple Inc) by 1. In contrast, they had no holdings in two new entries in the Q4 2022 filing, LW and GIS.

The Compass Capital Management Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F holdings comparison shows that the fund made some significant changes to their portfolio. While some holdings saw an increase in value, others saw a decrease, and some were outright eliminated. This information could be useful for investors who want to keep track of changes to the investment strategy of an influential investment fund. It may also suggest to investors where Compass Capital Management believes promising future growth opportunities lie as the choice of which securities to buy, hold and sell is often an indicator of how the fund views the current market.
