First off, the firm increased its holdings in Apple Inc. by 13.6%, going from 104,629 shares in Q4 2022 to 93,670 shares in Q1 2023. The value of the holdings also increased from $13,594,000 to $15,446,000. Similarly, its holdings in Microsoft Corp rose by 10.5%, going from 54,102 shares to 49,737 shares.
Essex Investment Management also added to its position in HCI Group Inc, which saw the highest percentage increase among its holdings. The firm increased its holdings by 131.3%, going from 114,604 shares in Q4 2022 to 195,752 shares in Q1 2023.
On the other hand, some of the company's top holdings saw a decrease in shares, such as Tenet Healthcare Corp Com New and Exxon Mobil Corp Com. Tenet Healthcare's holdings decreased by 100% from Q4 2022 to Q1 2023, while Exxon saw a decrease of 6.3%, going from 62,719 shares to 59,135 shares.
Other losses were incurred by companies like Cutera Inc Com, Veracyte Inc Com, and Albemarle Corp Com, with losses of 51.8%, 17%, and 14%, respectively.
However, it's not all bad news for the company's investments. Essex Investment Management also experienced gains in holdings for companies like Tandem Diabetes Care Inc Com N, which had an increase of 187.4%, and Kura Sushi USA Inc Cl A Com, which grew by 57.3%.
