The Rise and Fall: Comparing Provident Investment Management, Inc.'s Q3 2022 and Q4 2022 Holdings

The last quarter of the year is always crucial for the financial sector, with investors and fund managers alike scrambling to secure their profits and make smart investment decisions. And with the pandemic still causing uncertainties in the market, it's essential to keep a close eye on changes in ETF and mutual fund holdings. In this blog post, we'll compare Provident Investment Management, Inc.'s Q3 2022 and Q4 2022 13F holdings to see how their portfolio has changed.
First, it's worth noting that Provident Investment Management, Inc. increased their overall holdings from 33 stocks to 37 within the last quarter of 2022. Looking at specific holdings, Visa, Inc. (V) took the top spot in both quarters, with an increase of 18% in shares and 18% in value. Copart, Inc. (CPRT) and Concentrix Corp (CNXC) took the second and third spots in Q3 and Q4, respectively. However, while CPRT's shares remained the same, its value increased by 14.9%, and CNXC's shares and value increased by 24.1% and 24.5%, respectively.
Microsoft Corp (MSFT) and Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc (VRTX) took fourth and fifth places, respectively, in both quarters. However, VRTX's shares and value decreased by 1.1%.
Air Lease Corp (AL) was the sixth-highest holding in Q4, with an increase of 23.8% in value and a slight decrease of 0.5% in shares. In contrast, it wasn't among the top ten holdings in Q3. D R Horton Inc (DHI) took the seventh spot, with a significant increase of 30.1% in value, even though its shares decreased by 1.7%. Schwab Charles Corp (SCHW), which wasn't among the top holdings in Q3, increased to the eighth spot in Q4, with 522,962 new shares added to the portfolio.
Fastenal Co (FAST) and S&P Global Inc (SPGI) took the ninth and tenth spots in Q4. While both companies' shares remained constant, their value increased by 1.6% and 8.5%, respectively.
It's essential to note that among the top holdings in Q3, Alphabet Inc (GOOG), BLACKROCK INC (BLK), Align Technology Inc (ALGN), Fleetcor Technologies Inc (FLT), and MGM Resorts International (MGM) decreased in value in Q4. In contrast, Concentrix Corp (CNXC), Air Lease Corp (AL), D R Horton Inc (DHI), S&P Global Inc (SPGI), and Globus Med Inc (GMED) saw an increase in value.
On the other hand, a few holdings that weren't among the top ten in Q3 made it to the list in Q4. The biggest mover was Liberty Broadband Corp (LBRDK), whose shares and value increased by 17.8% and 21%, respectively, putting it in the twentieth spot in Q4. iShares TR (QUAL), Dollar Gen Corp New (DG), Procter and Gamble Co (PG), and Northern Tr Corp (NTRS) also entered the top ten in Q4.
It's worth noting that there were a few significant changes in the portfolio, such as Disney Walt Co (DIS) dropping by 98%, going from the highest holding in Q3 to 94th in Q4. Similarly, Nexstar Media Group Inc (NXST) and Cargurus Inc (CARG) completely left the portfolio in Q4, and Clear Channel Outdoor Hldgs (CCO) and Qurate Retail Inc (QRTEA) reduced their value significantly.
In conclusion, Provident Investment Management, Inc. made some smart moves in Q4 2022, increasing their holdings and optimizing their portfolio with high-performing stocks such as Concentrix Corp (CNXC) and S&P Global Inc (SPGI). While there were a few losses along the way, the overall performance seems steady, and it's essential to keep a lookout for more changes in the upcoming quarters.
