Appaloosa LP Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F Holdings Comparison

Investment firms file quarterly reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) revealing which stocks they hold. These reports are known as 13F filings. Appaloosa LP recently filed their Q3 2022 and Q4 2022 13F filings, and we have analyzed the changes in their holdings during this period.
During Q4 2022, Appaloosa LP decreased their holdings in Constellation Energy Corp (CEG) by 5.5%, holding 2,398,729 shares compared to 2,630,000 shares in Q3 2022. Their holdings in Alphabet Inc (GOOG) also decreased by 7.7%, holding 1,775,016 shares in Q4 2022, compared to 1,995,000 shares in Q3 2022.
Appaloosa LP increased their holdings in Macy's Inc (M) by 30.7%, holding 5,950,000 shares in Q4 2022 compared to 6,000,000 shares in Q3 2022. Their holdings in Energy Transfer L P (ET) also increased by 7.6%, holding 10,203,430 shares in Q4 2022, the same as in Q3 2022.
However, not all of their holdings increased. Appaloosa LP decreased their holdings in EQT Corp (EQT) by 16.2%, holding 2,550,000 shares in Q4 2022 compared to 2,525,000 shares in Q3 2022. They also decreased their holdings in Meta Platforms Inc (META) by 41.7%, holding 575,000 shares in Q4 2022 compared to 875,000 shares in Q3 2022.
Appaloosa LP's holdings in Walt Disney Co (DIS) and Caesars Entertainment Inc NE (CZR) changed from zero holdings in Q3 2022 to 300,000 and 425,000 shares, respectively, in Q4 2022. They also added 50,000 shares of Aptiv PLC (APTV) to their holdings in Q4 2022.
In terms of percentage change, their largest increase in holdings was in HCA Healthcare Inc (HCA), with a 217.7% increase, holding 182,500 shares in Q4 2022 compared to 75,000 shares in Q3 2022. Their largest decrease in holdings was in Mosaic Co New (M), where they sold their entire 125,000 shares in Q4 2022.
Overall, Appaloosa LP made several changes to their portfolio during Q4 2022, increasing their holdings in some stocks, decreasing their holdings in others, and adding new holdings. While these changes may not necessarily reflect the performance of these stocks, they do provide insights into the investment strategy of one of the most successful hedge funds in the world.
