A Closer Look at Bison Wealth's Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F Holdings: Changes in Top Investments and Sector Allocation

Ava Hoppe | 24 April, 2023

Bison Wealth, LLC is a registered investment advisor based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, serving high-net-worth individual clients and institutions. As a part of its quarterly filing requirements, the firm recently disclosed its holdings as at the end of Q4 2022. We analyzed the data to understand the changes made in the past quarter in comparison to the previous one. In total, Bison Wealth reported 52 securities in its 13F filing, with a total value of over $338 million. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at the top holdings and sector allocation changes that occurred between Q3 2022 and Q4 2022.

Top Investments

Bison Wealth's top investments changed very little between the two quarters. Apple Inc (AAPL) remained the largest holding, with a share count of 103,122 at the end of Q4 2022, compared to 108,763 at the end of Q3 2022. Though the share count reduced, the value remained relatively stable, with a decrease of only 1.9%. On the other hand, holdings in Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) reduced by 1.3% with a share count of 40,906 in Q4 2022, down from 43,174 in Q3 2022. Notably, JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM) moved up from the third-largest holding to the second-largest holding. Its share count barely reduced by 1.1%, but the value increased by a significant 31.7% due to stock price appreciation in Q4 2022. The shares worth $5.5 million in Q3 2022 surged to $7.2 million in Q4 2022. Moreover, Home Depot Inc (HD) and Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) remained the fourth and fifth-largest investments, respectively. Home Depot's share count increased by nearly 0.4% while Amazon's share increased by 7.8% between the quarters.

Sector Allocation

Bison Wealth had an allocation of 69.2% towards Information Technology, Financials, and Health Care sectors in the Q3 2022, which declined to 65.3% in Q4 2022. Financials saw the biggest increase in allocation, with a significant surge of 26.9%, while both Information Technology and Health Care saw a decrease in allocation by 6.1% and 11.2%, respectively. Within the Financials sector, holdings in JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM) and Wells Fargo & Co (WFC) represented the largest position, while in the Health Care sector, the highest allocation was in UnitedHealth Group Inc (UNH). In summary, the Q4 2022 filing highlights that Bison Wealth remained bullish on the Information Technology sector while increasing its holdings in the Financials sector. Although the changes were not significant, they reflect the firm's view on the shifting dynamics of the market. It's important to note that this is only a snapshot at the end of Q4 2022, and things may have changed since then. Therefore, investors should always do their due diligence and perform their research before making any investment decisions. In conclusion, Bison Wealth's Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F holdings do not reflect any drastic changes. Although there were some alterations in holdings and sector allocation, they were minimal. As always, investors are encouraged to dig deeper into these holdings and consider their risk tolerances and investment objectives.
