Ava Hoppe | 19 April, 2023
Cetera Advisor Networks LLC's recently released 13F filings showed that the company's holdings have undergone several changes in Q4 2022 compared to Q3 2022. The data in the filings show the changes in holdings for various stocks, including shares and their corresponding value. In this article, we will discuss these changes and their potential significance.
One significant change in holdings was with the stock of Apple Inc. (AAPL). The Cupertino-based tech giant saw an increase in shares held by Cetera Advisor Networks, from 2,028,513 in Q3 to 2,200,470 in Q4 - a 2% increase. This netted AAPL a valuation of $280,340,000 in Q3 and $285,907,000 in Q4.
Similarly, Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon.com (AMZN) also saw a substantial change in their holdings. MSFT had an increase of 194,091 shares held, resulting in a net valuation of $152,067,000 in Q3 and $203,131,000 in Q4, a 33.6% increase. Conversely, AMZN faced a decrease in shares held, resulting in a valuation decrease of $100,372,000 to $94,683,000, a decline of 5.7%
In the Q3 filings, the most widely held stock by Cetera Advisor Networks was the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM), with 4,082,334 shares held. However, this saw a decrease of 592,750 shares held, resulting in a net valuation of $766,493,000 in Q3 and $1,064,739,000 in Q4.
The top three positions held in Q4 were iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), with 744,719 shares held and a net valuation of $286,128,000, Apple Inc. (AAPL) with 2,200,470 shares held and a net valuation of $285,907,000, and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) with 847,018 shares held and a net valuation of $203,131,000.
Notably, BSV, a fixed-income index fund, also saw a significant increase in shares held in Q4. Cetera Advisor Networks LLC added 1,603,900 shares, resulting in a net valuation of $140,996,000, a 600.4% increase from its position of $20,131,000 in Q3.
The Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) also saw remarkable growth, with shares held increasing from 204,497 to 430,869 shares and a net valuation of $36,701,000 to $82,377,000 between Q3 and Q4 – a 124.5% increase.
Another notable increase was in JPMorgan Exchange-Traded Funds' JPST ETF, with shares held by Cetera Advisor Networks increasing from 1,369,919 to 1,776,940, resulting in a net valuation of $68,715,000 to $89,078,000 - a 29.6% increase.
The changes in holdings in this 13F filings period show that Cetera Advisor Networks LLC is revising its investment strategies while taking calculated risks in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) through a combination of fixed-income index funds and equity sector funds.
Overall, these changes in holdings could suggest that Cetera Advisor Networks LLC is becoming increasingly bullish in the index fund and ETFs market. The moves for AAPL, MSFT, and AMZN could indicate that the company is bullish about the technology sector as conflicting adjustments occurred between high-growth names and some economically sensitive areas, making Q4 a period of significant change for fund managers.
