Investors love to see how their favorite fund managers are investing their money, and the 13F filings are a great way to do just that. We are going to compare the Q4 2018 holdings of Cider Mill Investments LP with the Q1 2019 holdings and see what changes were made.
Cider Mill Investments made some significant moves in Q1 2019, adding new positions and trimming some older ones. The fund's overall value dipped, but that might be because they were aiming for smaller but more meaningful positions.
The biggest increase was made in United States Oil Fund LP, with Cider Mill Investments adding 478,300 shares. That's a massive 100% increase from the previous quarter when they had no holdings in the entity. Another huge jump was made in WP, with the fund holding 71300 shares, a 21% reduction from the previous quarter.
The fund also added a decent position to Esent Group Ltd, with 32,400 more shares than last quarter, amounting to a 62.2% change. While Cider Mill Investments added a position in Covetrus Inc, they sold off their entire holdings in Sony Corp, Unitedhealth Group Inc, and Visa Inc in Q1 2019.
Cider Mill Investments also reduced large positions in Berry Global Group Inc, Fidelity Natl Information Sv, and Adobe Inc by over 50% each. These moves could suggest that the fund managers believe that some of their former holdings were overpriced or overvalued compared to other opportunities in the market.
The fund also sold off its entire holdings in entities like MTG, Danahey Corp. del, ServiceNow Inc, among others. In some cases, they might have been testing to see if the entities were worth investing in. Unfortunately, it seems like they concluded that those entities were not worth it.
The past quarter was an eventful one for fund managers as they had to navigate a volatile market. Cider Mill Investments LP seems to have smartly made some changes that should help boost its returns. Investors would do well to keep an eye on this fund to get an idea of where the smart money is flowing.
