Progressive Corp (PGR): No changes were made to the shares of PGR held by Courant, with 201,826 shares held in both Q3 and Q4 of 2022. However, the value of these shares increased by 11.6% from $23,454,000 to $26,178,000.
JP Morgan Chase & Co (JPM): A similar pattern emerged with JPM, with Courant holding 136,592 shares in both quarters. However, the value of these shares grew by an impressive 28.3%, from $14,274,000 to $18,316,000.
Schwab Charles Corp (SCHW): Again, no changes were made to the number of shares held, but their value increased by 15.8%, from $14,266,000 to $16,527,000.
Carmax Inc (KMX): In contrast to the previous holdings, Courant increased the number of shares held in KMX from 216,159 shares to 247,520 shares – a growth of 5.6%. However, the value of these shares remained relatively static, increasing by just 5.6%, from $14,271,000 to $15,071,000.
Mohawk Inds Inc (MHK): There were no changes to the number of shares held by Courant in MHK, with 88,100 shares held in both Quarters. However, the value of these shares increased by 12.1%, from $8,034,000 to $9,005,000.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRK-B & BRK-A): The number of shares of both BRK-B and BRK-A held by Courant remained the same, with 26,872 and 10 shares held, respectively, in both quarters. However, the value of these shares increased significantly, by 15.7% for BRK-B and 15.3% for BRK-A.
Bread Financial Holdings Inc (BFH): Courant again held the same number of shares in BFH – 72,000 shares – in both quarters. However, the value of these shares increased by 19.6%, from $2,267,000 to $2,711,000.
Lowes Companies Inc (LOW): Like several others in this list, Courant held the same number of shares in LOW – 10,000 shares – in both quarters. The value of these shares increased by 6%, from $1,880,000 to $1,992,000.
Sei Invts Co (SEIC) and Loyalty Ventures Inc (LYLT): Finally, Courant divested completely from SEIC, with 54,707 shares in Q3 2022 dropping to 0 in Q4 2022. Additionally, the company also sold all its LYLT shares, with 28,800 shares in Q3 2022 also dropping to 0 in Q4 2022.
In conclusion, while there were no significant changes in Courant's holdings or investment strategy, it is evident that the company is slowly but surely increasing its investment in several of these top holdings. And while the divestment in SEIC and LYLT may seem surprising, it's important to remember that investing is a constantly evolving and dynamic process that requires quick, smart decisions.
