Exploring Changes in Prism Advisors' Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 Portfolio Holdings

Ava Hoppe | 3 May, 2023

The latest 13F filings by Princeton-based investment management firm, Prism Advisors, Inc., reveal significant changes in their Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 portfolio holdings. In this article, we will take a closer look at the top holdings and analyze the changes in the fund's share value, option type, and overall value.

First off, we see that ProShares TR's NOBL (S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats ETF) experienced a 30.7% increase in shares from Q3 2022 to Q4 2022. Similarly, First Tr Value Line Divid In's FVD also saw a 5.1% increase in shares held by the firm. On the flip side, Invesco's QQQ (NASDAQ 100 ETF) faced an 11.6% decrease in shares, while First Tr Exchange-Traded FD's LMBS (Low Duration Opportunities ETF) saw a 5.5% decrease in shares held.

Looking at the option type column, we see that calls were added to two ETFs: Global X FDS' HSPX (S&P 500 Covered Call ETF) and QYLD (Nasdaq 100 Covered Call ETF). HSPX, in particular, saw a 100% increase in the number of shares held, while QYLD went from zero shares to 618,860 shares in Q4 2022. This suggests that Prism Advisors is taking a bullish approach towards these ETFs and expects the market to perform well in the coming year.

Coming to the change in value, Ishares TR's EEM (MSCI Emerging Markets ETF) saw a staggering 62.8% increase in value - the highest among all the ETFs in the portfolio. The ETF's shares went up from 60,255 in Q3 2022 to 90,267 in Q4 2022, which is likely a result of the rebound in emerging markets and the increasing focus on sustainable investing.

Another ETF that saw a significant change in value is CGXU (Capital Group Intl Focus Eqt). While the number of shares held by Prism Advisors decreased by only 4.4%, the ETF's value went up from $17,007,000 to $18,089,000, indicating a 6.4% increase. This could be due to the rising demand for international equity investments and the ETF's focus on historically resilient companies with high earnings potential.

In terms of the top holdings, Ishares TR's DGRO (Core Dividend Growth ETF) and EFA (MSCI EAFE ETF) are the two biggest holdings in Prism Advisor's portfolio. Sandeep Gupta, the portfolio manager at Prism Advisors, has previously emphasized that the firm's focus is on value and quality investments. Thus, it comes as no surprise that the firm has invested heavily in diversified equity ETFs such as DGRO, EFA, and VGK (Vanguard Intl Equity Index Fds). In fact, DGRO saw a 3.9% increase in its share value from Q3 2022 to Q4 2022, while EFA saw a 54.9% increase in shares.

To sum it up, Prism Advisors' Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F holdings reveal interesting insights into the firm's investment strategy. The firm seems to be bullish on emerging markets and international equity investments, while continuing to invest in value and quality ETFs. The addition of call options in HSPX and QYLD suggests that the firm is also optimistic about the future performance of the market. As always, investors should do their own research and analysis before making any investment decisions.
