Arlington Partners LLC Q4 2022 Quarterly Report: Changes in Holdings, New Entries, and Significant Reductions

The Arlington Partners LLC is a popular hedge fund that uses its expertise in stock market investing to generate substantial returns for its investors. Like most hedge funds, it is required to file a quarterly report with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that lists its holdings as of the end of the quarter.
The third quarter of 2022 (Q3 2022) and the fourth quarter of 2022 (Q4 2022) were eventful for the fund, as the holdings have undergone significant changes. Here is a summary of the changes in holdings of the fund during this period.
The biggest change in holdings was the addition of 14.15 million shares of iShares iBonds Dec 2023 Term Tr ETF (IBTD) in Q4 2022. The fund did not hold any shares of IBTD in Q3 2022, but the value of its holdings in IBTD in Q4 2022 was $349,565, representing a new entry.
Another significant change was the departure of SPDR Bloomberg Barclays 1-3 Mo T-Bill ETF (BIL) from the fund's holdings. The fund had 23.92 million shares of BIL in Q3 2022, with a value of $2,191,358. However, in Q4 2022, it sold off a large portion of it, retaining only 33.49 million shares, with a value of $3,063,574.
In other significant changes, the fund bought 416,379 shares of Vanguard High Dividend Yield Index ETF (VYM) in Q4 2022, bringing its total holdings to 427,583 shares. The value of the fund's holdings in VYM increased from $40,569 in Q3 2022 to $45,056 in Q4 2022, representing an 11.1% increase.
Similarly, the fund added 924,942 shares of Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF (VEA) in Q4 2022, increasing its total holdings to 932,775 shares. The value of the fund's holdings in VEA increased from $33,916 in Q3 2022 to $38,819 in Q4 2022, representing a 14.5% increase.
The fund also added shares of several other ETFs in Q4 2022, including the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG), the Vanguard International High Dividend Yield Index ETF (VYMI), and the Vanguard S&P 500 Value ETF (IVE).
In terms of individual stocks, the fund bought 5,601 additional shares of Raytheon Technologies Corp (RTX) in Q4 2022, bringing its total holdings to 39,056 shares. The value of the fund's holdings in RTX increased from $3,197 in Q3 2022 to $3,941 in Q4 2022, representing a 23.3% increase.
The fund also bought additional shares of Apple Inc (AAPL), iShares S&P 500 Value ETF (IVE), Medtronic PLC (MDT), and Starbucks Corp (SBUX) during Q4 2022.
On the other hand, the fund reduced its holdings in several stocks during the same period. The largest reduction was the sale of 13,616,500 shares of iShares MSCI ACWI Index ETF (ACWI) in Q4 2022. The fund held 34,083,000 shares of ACWI in Q3 2022, with a total value of $2,653,040. However, in Q4 2022, it sold off a large portion of it, retaining only 20,400,000 shares, with a value of $1,731,840. The value of the fund's holdings in ACWI decreased by 34.7% during Q4 2022.
The fund also sold off a substantial number of shares of Biogen Idec Inc (BIIB), Amazon.com Inc (AMZN), Abbvie Inc Com (ABBV), and Dollar General Corp (DG) during the quarter.
In summary, the Arlington Partners LLC made several significant changes to its holdings during Q4 2022. While adding many new positions, the fund also sold off holdings that it deemed less promising, indicating a strategy of pivoting toward growth and profit.
