Prevent Blindness Georgia Raises Funds to Expand Vision Saving Initiatives
Gracie Gottlieb | 20 November, 2023
Prevent Blindness Georgia (PBGA), a leading eye health organization in the state, has successfully raised $320,000 to support its vision saving initiatives. The funds were raised at the 7th Annual Night for Sight Gala, which took place in October at the Whitley Hotel. With this financial boost, PBGA will be able to expand its vital children's vision services and reach more school systems across Georgia.
In 2023, PBGA achieved a historic milestone by serving the largest number of Georgians in its history. This included 51,120 school children and 3,412 financially insecure adults. PBGA's mission has always been to ensure that every individual has access to essential eye care and vision-saving treatments. Unfortunately, according to the United Health Foundation, 12.6 percent of Georgia's population currently lacks private or public health insurance coverage.
Jill Thornton, President and CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia, expressed gratitude for their 2023 Person of Vision, Scott Bullock. Bullock, the Co-Founder of EyeSouth Partners and the 2021 & 2022 Board of Directors Chair for PBGA, played a crucial role in helping the organization exceed its gala goal. Under his leadership, PBGA surpassed its annual goal of providing vision screenings, eye exams, and prescription eyeglasses for children and adults. Bullock also recruited eye doctors within the EyeSouth Partners network to volunteer their time and provide eye exams and surgery for PBGA's clinics.
During the Night for Sight Gala, PBGA recognized Scott Bullock as their 2023 Person of Vision. The event brought together 275 individuals, including distinguished guests such as TV producer Rikki Klaus and various consulate representatives. The evening featured musical entertainment by Lilac Wine and Phillip Arrington, and guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner. PBGA looks forward to hosting the event again next year.
Prevent Blindness Georgia was founded in 1965 with a mission to preserve sight and prevent blindness for all Georgians. The organization offers a range of services designed to provide care at the local level, focusing on children and economically challenged adults. PBGA also works to educate and advocate for better eye health and safety. Through the support of generous donors, PBGA is able to provide its services free of charge to those in need.
EyeSouth Partners, headquartered in Atlanta, GA, is an eye care management services organization that partners with leading physicians to build a premier network of eye care services throughout the U.S. The affiliated practices under EyeSouth's umbrella provide high-quality medical and surgical specialty eye care. The organization supports its partners with strategic guidance, administrative resources, operating expertise, and capital, all with a focus on clinical quality and patient care.
Prevent Blindness Georgia's successful fundraising efforts will enable them to continue their mission of saving sight and restoring vision for thousands of Georgians. Through their expanded vision-saving initiatives, they aim to make a significant impact on eye health in the state. With the support of dedicated individuals like Scott Bullock and organizations like EyeSouth Partners, PBGA is building a brighter future for the children of Georgia and ensuring that no one needlessly loses their eyesight due to preventable vision loss.
