American Asset Management Inc.'s Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022: A Closer Look at the Latest 13F Holdings

In the world of investments, the release of the 13F form is highly anticipated. This document lists the holdings of institutional investment managers with at least $100 million in assets. One of these investment managers, American Asset Management Inc. (AAM), has recently published their Q3 2022 and Q4 2022 13F holdings comparison. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at some of the major changes in AAM's holdings.
First on the list is SPDR S&P 500 ETF TR (SPY), which saw a decrease in shares from 80,638 to 78,226. Despite the drop in shares, the value of these holdings increased from $28,802,000 to $29,916,000, which represents a 3.9% increase. It's worth noting that this ETF tracks the S&P 500 index, which has been performing well in recent years.
Another significant decrease in shares belongs to SPDR GOLD TR (GLD), which went from 189,144 shares in Q3 to 167,672 shares in Q4. The value of these holdings also dropped from $29,255,000 to $28,443,000, a 2.8% decrease. This change may indicate that AAM has different expectations for the price of gold going forward.
In slight contrast to GLD, ISHARES GOLD TR (IAU) saw a significant increase in shares, going from 0 in Q3 to 92,755 in Q4. This resulted in a value of $3,208,000. Meanwhile, another new addition to AAM's portfolio is INNOVATOR ETFS TR (POCT), which saw 32,000 new shares with a value of $962,000.
In terms of individual stocks, Apple Inc. (AAPL) experienced the most substantial decrease in shares, dropping from 3,280 in Q3 to 2,980 in Q4. This resulted in a decrease in value from $453,000 to $387,000, representing a 14.5% decrease. On the other hand, Berkshire Hathaway Inc Del's (BRK-B) holdings increased slightly, from 1,100 to 1,095 shares. However, the value of these holdings jumped from $294,000 to $338,000, an impressive 15% increase.
Some other notable changes include Costco Whsl Corp New (COST), which saw 550 new shares with a value of $251,000, and Mastercard Incorporated (MA), which saw 600 new shares with a value of $208,000.
Lastly, The RealReal Inc (REAL) experienced a decrease in value, despite maintaining the same number of shares (100,000) from Q3 to Q4. The value of these shares decreased from $150,000 to $125,000, a 16.7% decrease.
To wrap it up, it's clear that AAM's most significant holdings remained relatively constant over the Q3 to Q4 period. However, there were notable additions and subtractions in other areas, including the above-listed stocks and ETFs. It's also worth remembering that investment decisions can be complex and influenced by many different factors, such as inflation, market trends, and broader economic conditions. Nonetheless, analyzing 13F filings like this can provide valuable insights into an institutional investment manager's current strategy.
