Analyzing Harvest Fund Advisors' 13F Holdings CSV file: Changes in Oil and Gas Industry Holdings

Ava Hoppe | 20 April, 2023

The world is experiencing a massive shift towards renewable energy but oil and gas are still significant sources for energy. Consequently, it's important to keep track of the holdings of the big funds that play in the oil and gas space – and that's what this recent CSV from Harvest Fund Advisors is all about. Let's take a closer look at it.

Harvest Fund Advisors LLC recently released a 13F Holdings CSV file, showing the fund's holdings in the last quarter of 2019 compared to the first quarter of 2020. The CSV file contains thirteen columns, which are Symbol, Issuer Name, Option Type, Q4 2019 (SHARES), Q1 2020 (SHARES), Q4 2019 VALUE ($000), Q1 2020 VALUE ($000), and Chg %. The data in the file is divided into twenty-seven rows, with each row showing the changes in the holdings of a particular fund in the oil and gas industry.

The CSV file shows that the most significant percentage change in holdings was experienced by the Plains All America Pipeline LP (PAA). The fund reduced its holdings in PAA from 34,919,531 shares in Q4 2019 to 34,478,393 shares in Q1 2020 – a whopping 71.7% decrease.

Another company that top fund reduced its stake in is Enterprise Products Partners L (EPD). The fund's holding in the company dropped from 51,958,044 shares in Q4 2019 to 56,197,039 shares in Q1 2020 – a decrease of 45.1%.

Energy Transfer LP (ET) is another company that experienced a significant decrease in the fund's holding. In Q4 2019, the fund held 108,505,228 shares in the company, but this number reduced to 102,422,972 shares in Q1 2020 – a 66.2% decrease.

Enbridge Inc. (ENB.TO) saw a decline in holdings from 16,874,885 shares in Q4 2019 to 18,852,686 shares in Q1 2020, a drop of 18.3%. The decline in holdings shows that the fund is not optimistic about the company's future performance.

However, there were some companies that the fund increased its holdings in, including Tallgrass Energy LP (TGE) and BP Midstream Partners LP (BPMP). In Q1 2020, the fund held 8,319,070 shares in TGE, up from zero in Q4 2019. For BPMP, the fund held 413,111 shares in Q1 2020, up from zero in Q4 2019. The changes may have been made because the fund has a positive outlook on the future of these companies.

One of the most interesting things about the CSV file is the complete sell-out at Marathon Pete Corp (MPC) and Antero Res Corp (AR). The fund held 685,926 shares in MPC and 11,686,075 shares in AR in Q4 2019, but by Q1 2020, the fund had sold all its holdings in both companies.

In conclusion, the CSV file from Harvest Fund Advisors LLC shows significant changes in the fund's holdings in the oil and gas industry. Some companies experienced a significant decrease in holdings, while others experienced an increase. Interestingly, some companies like BP Midstream Partners LP, which saw an increase in holdings, and Marathon Pete Corp and Antero Res Corp, which experienced a complete sell-out of holdings. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the performance of the fund and the industry as a whole.
