Gamble Jones Investment Counsel: Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 Holdings Comparison Reveals Surprising Changes

Ava Hoppe | 4 May, 2023

Investment firms are always on the lookout for the best-performing stocks to add to their portfolios. It's not uncommon for them to make changes to their holdings every quarter, depending on market trends and other factors. One such firm is Gamble Jones Investment Counsel, and a recent comparison of their Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F Holdings reveals some interesting changes.

One of the surprising changes is the increase in holdings of Procter and Gamble Co. (PG). The firm's Q3 2022 shares of PG were 2,449,507, while in Q4 2022, it increased to 2,448,284. This change is notable because the value of PG's Q4 2022 shares is $371,061, which is a 20% increase from the Q3 2022 value of $309,250. This increase could be a result of PG's solid earnings report during this period.

Another notable change is the decrease in holdings of Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN). In Q3 2022, Gamble Jones Investment Counsel had 297,488 shares in AMZN, but that number decreased to 289,085 in Q4 2022. Moreover, the value of these shares also decreased by 27.8%, from $33,616 in Q3 2022 to $24,283 in Q4 2022. This could be because of the increased scrutiny on big tech companies and regulatory pressures.

Tech giants Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) also experienced a decrease in holdings between Q3 2022 and Q4 2022. AAPL had a 7.5% decrease in shares from 517,817 to 509,203, and MSFT had a 1.5% decrease in shares from 260,093 to 256,396. However, the value of these shares did not decrease significantly, with AAPL's value decreasing by only 7.5% and MSFT's increasing by 1.5%.

On the other hand, some companies saw a significant increase in holdings between Q3 2022 and Q4 2022. One of these is Vanguard Whitehall FDS (VYM), which saw its shares increase by 25.1%, from 162,415 in Q3 2022 to 178,219 in Q4 2022. The value of these shares also increased by 25.1% from $15,410 in Q3 2022 to $19,285 in Q4 2022. This increase could be due to the popularity of dividend-paying ETFs during this period.

Overall, the Gamble Jones Investment Counsel Q3 2022 vs. Q4 2022 13F Holdings comparison reveals that some changes were surprising, while others were expected. It's important to note that these changes reflect the firm's investment strategy, and it will be interesting to see how these holdings perform in the future.
