Gannett Fleming Expands Power and Utility Solutions with DiGioia Gray Acquisition
Gracie Gottlieb | 1 August, 2023
CAMP HILL, Pa. - Gannett Fleming, a leading provider of engineering and infrastructure solutions, has announced its acquisition of DiGioia Gray, a company specializing in power delivery, geosciences, geotechnical, and civil engineering solutions. This strategic move aims to strengthen Gannett Fleming's transmission and substation engineering capabilities, enabling the company to better serve power and utility clients on a larger scale.
Founded in 2004 by Tony DiGioia Jr., PhD, PE, and Dick Gray, PG, DiGioia Gray has become known for its technology-enabled engineering solutions for customers in the power and utility, industrial, and transportation sectors. Their integrated suite of power delivery solutions includes transmission line and substation design, geologic engineering, and foundation analysis and design. These solutions contribute to expanding utility infrastructure and enhancing resilient power projects. With over 120 engineers, geologists, and technologists, DiGioia Gray possesses deep technical expertise and leverages proprietary software tools and industry-leading research to support the delivery of critical infrastructure projects.
The acquisition comes at a crucial time when the need for sustainable infrastructure is increasingly urgent due to the acceleration of climate change and decades of underinvestment in critical infrastructure. Substation and transmission engineering have also gained importance with the growing demand for decarbonization, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. Bob Scaer, CEO of Gannett Fleming, emphasized the significance of this acquisition in addressing these pressing issues. He stated, "For over 100 years, Gannett Fleming has helped our clients develop modern infrastructure solutions that span transportation, electrification, and water management. The acquisition of DiGioia Gray will add to our portfolio of differentiated, technology-enabled solutions, all while supporting significant drivers of grid and energy resilience."
DiGioia Gray President, Jim Brennan, expressed excitement about the partnership with Gannett Fleming, highlighting the innovative and entrepreneurial culture that has been fostered at DiGioia Gray. He believes that joining forces with a leading firm like Gannett Fleming will allow them to offer enhanced client service, expand their service offering, and drive sustainable growth. Brennan stated, "This is a transformative combination, and we look forward to accelerating our growth trajectory."
As the 26th ranked firm on Engineering News-Record's Top Design Firms list, Gannett Fleming's acquisition of DiGioia Gray marks its first strategic move since partnering with OceanSound Partners in December 2022.
