NewEdge Advisors' Q3 to Q4 2022 13F filings reveal significant portfolio holdings changes

As the third quarter of 2022 drew to a close, hedge fund NewEdge Advisors, LLC had made significant changes to its portfolio holdings. The company’s latest 13F filings reveal some of the notable changes in holdings from Q3 to Q4 2022.

Apple (AAPL)

NewEdge Advisors increased its holdings of Apple Inc., a technology giant known for its iPhones, iPads, and other popular devices. The hedge fund added a total of 101,834 shares of AAPL, increasing its holdings by 6.8%. This move made Apple the largest holding of the hedge fund in terms of value, accounting for 19.7% of the portfolio.

Vanguard Index Funds (VOO, VTV, VO)

The company reduced its holdings in several Vanguard Index Funds. The hedge fund sold off 17,946 shares of VOO (a 5.4% decrease), 103,435 shares of VTV (a 22% decrease), and 49,242 shares of VO (a 29.8% decrease). The fund still holds significant positions in these funds, with VOO accounting for 10.5%, VTV 3.6%, and VO 1.8% of the portfolio values.

Microsoft (MSFT)

NewEdge Advisors increased its holdings in Microsoft Corporation, a leading provider of computer software and hardware, by 8.7% in the quarter, adding a total of 48,954 shares. However, the value of the holdings decreased by 48.7%, as MSFT sold off in the fourth quarter from its Q3 levels. The tech giant now accounts for 6.2% of the fund’s holdings.

iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO)

The biggest addition to the NewEdge Advisors portfolio in the fourth quarter was the iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF. The hedge fund added 595,952 shares of DGRO, increasing its holdings by 68.3%, which solidified a position as a top five holding for the fund.

SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY)

The hedge fund reduced its holdings in the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, which tracks the S&P 500 stock market index. The holding decreased by 7,515 shares, or 2.8%, in the quarter. The value of the holding decreased by 39.1%, with SPY now accounting for only 2.2% of the portfolio value.

iShares Core Total US Bond Market ETF (AGG)

NewEdge Advisors sold off a significant portion of its holdings of the iShares Core Total US Bond Market ETF, decreasing its holdings by 13,676 shares, or 1.6%. Its value also decreased by 28.1%, making AGG the ninth largest holding, accounting for 4.4% of the portfolio value.

iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV)

The hedge fund reduced its holdings of the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF, which tracks the performance of the S&P 500 Index. It sold off 14,668 shares, or 2.7%, in the quarter. The value of the holding decreased by 73.9%, and IVV now accounts for only 1.7% of the portfolio value, down from the seventh spot in the third quarter.

Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ)

NewEdge Advisors increased its holdings of the Invesco QQQ Trust, an exchange-traded fund that tracks the performance of the Nasdaq 100 Index, by 52,275 shares, or 33.9%, in the quarter. The value of the holdings increased by 2.5%, making it the tenth-largest holding for the hedge fund.

Overall, NewEdge Advisors made some significant changes in its portfolio holdings. The fund added several dividend-focused funds like DGRO, sold off significant portions of two of its largest holdings like Apple and Microsoft, continued to decrease its allocation towards broad-based stock funds like SPY, as well as made some smaller moves in individual stocks like Chevron and Home Depot. It will be interesting to see if NewEdge Advisors makes any significant changes to its holdings in the coming quarter.
