In today's world, with the ever-changing market trends and fluctuating economies, investment strategies have become much more critical than ever before. One such investment house, ACK Asset Management LLC, in their recent 13F filings, has revealed their asset holdings and their changes over Q3 and Q4 of 2022. Comparing these holdings and changes can give us a glimpse into their investment strategies for the upcoming years.
During Q4 2022, ACK Asset Management increased their position in MTRN by 22.8% - 419,700 shares to 515,500 shares. This is an interesting move given MTRN's recent double in share price, and the company's rise in both revenues and EBITDA over the past year. EME, on the other hand, seems to be a stable position for ACK, being unchanged with 300,000 shares in both Q3 and Q4. Moreover, EME's overall value increased by 28.3%, more than half of it coming from EME's stock market rise in the last quarter.
ACK Asset Management's position in ROG took an exceptional turn when the company went from having no shares in Q3 to 370,000 shares in Q4. The value of ROG was reported at $44,156,000 in Q4, further indicating the company's newfound interest. Ensco Rowan (ENS) saw an increase in holdings, up 52.2%, with 460,000 shares in Q3 escalating to 551,500 shares in Q4. This rise in shares amounted to an increase in overall value from $26,758,000 to $40,723,000, with ENSCO's positive cash flow prominent in both quarters.
DY showed an exceptional increase in holdings, with shares escalating from 130,000 to 415,000, indicating an 212.8% increase. DY also saw a massive increase in net sales, from $91.9 million to $187 million, and a positive adjusted EBITDA. Similar trends were observed in MTZ, with holdings escalating from 305,000 to 440,200 (a 93.9% increase), while the value of the overall holdings increased by 94%.
Moreover, we notice that ACK Asset Management purchased 1,075,000 shares in ATS in Q4, which traded at $31 per share on December 31, 2022. The cost of this would be approximately $33.3 million. In contrast, Ack Asset Management owned no shares in ATS in Q3 of 2022. This is a significant buy, and it should be intriguing to see how this plays out over the upcoming year.
Interestingly, ACK's position in AIMC fell drastically by 43.1%, with holdings plummeting from 585,000 to 187,271. This decline was further reflected in the overall value of holdings, declining from $19,668,000 to $11,189,000. BLDR was another position with a significant decline in holdings, with numbers dropping down from 180,000 to 101,200 in Q4.
In conclusion, ACK Asset Management LLC showed a rather diverse portfolio with significant growth in positions such as DY and MTZ, but drastic declines in positions in AIMC and BLDR. ATS was the most notable purchase in Q4, and it will be interesting to see how their investments in ATS play out in the upcoming years.
