Investment firms are always on the lookout for new opportunities and pivoting strategies when necessary. As the market changes, their priorities can shift, leading to different holdings quarter to quarter. Prio Wealth Limited Partnership is no exception, and their Q3 2022 and Q4 2022 13F holdings show just how much can change in a short amount of time.
One of the most significant changes in Prio's holdings was their reduced stake in Apple Inc. During Q3 2022, they held 1,564,403 shares, but that number decreased to 1,514,013 shares in Q4 2022. This shift represented a decrease of 9%, and the value of their holdings dropped from $216,200 to $196,715.
On the other hand, Prio increased their holdings in Microsoft Corp, from 474,648 shares in Q3 to 469,999 in Q4. This change represented a modest uptick of 2%, and the value of their holdings increased from $110,545 to $112,715.
The most significant percentage change in holdings was seen in Broadcom Inc, where Prio's stake decreased from 141,167 shares in Q3 to 139,751 in Q4. However, the value of their holdings increased by an impressive 24.7%, from $62,679 to $78,139.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc was another interesting case, where the number of shares dropped from 145,444 in Q3 to 140,606 in Q4, representing a decrease of 5%. However, the value of their holdings increased from $73,767 to $77,430 during the same period.
Despite having a strong presence in both Q3 and Q4 2022, Alphabet Inc saw a decrease in both the number of shares held (853,995 in Q3 to 841,062 in Q4 – a decrease of 1.5%) and the value of their holdings ($82,111 to $74,627 – a decrease of 9.1%).
One of the most considerable increases in holdings was seen in Merck & Co Inc. Prio's stake increased from 679,801 shares in Q3 to 640,731 in Q4, representing an increase of 21.4%. The value of these holdings increased from $58,544 to $71,089.
Another notable increase was seen in Boston Scientific Corp, where Prio's stake dropped from 1,154,745 shares in Q3 to 1,118,054 in Q4 but the value of their holdings increased from $44,723 to $51,732 (a 15.7% increase).
Looking at the financial sector, Prio increased their holdings in JPMorgan Chase & Co (from 418,541 to 423,829 shares – a 1.3% increase) and Bank of America Corp (from 1,511,845 to 1,523,095 – a 0.7% increase).
In contrast, Goldman Sachs Group Inc saw a decrease in the number of shares held by Prio (from 110,819 to 109,035 shares – a 1.6% decrease). However, the value of their holdings increased from $32,475 to $37,440, representing a 15.3% increase.
Other intriguing shifts in Prio's holdings were seen in Amazon Com Inc (a decrease in both shares held and value of holdings), Waste Mgmt Inc Del (a massive increase in the number of shares held), and Zoetis Inc (an acquisition of shares).
Conclusion
Prio Wealth Limited Partnership's Q3-Q4 2022 13F holdings showed that the firm made a variety of changes in their portfolio over a short period. While some holdings saw increased value or number of shares, others decreased, showcasing how investment strategy can shift quickly in response to market fluctuations.
Prio's reduced stake in Apple and Alphabet Inc highlights how the big tech companies once considered secure investments now come with an uncertain future. Conversely, their increased holdings in companies like Merck & Co Inc and Boston Scientific Corp show their interest in the healthcare industry.
As the market continues to change in the coming years, it will be interesting to see how Prio adapts its strategy and holdings to maximize its returns.
