Sun Capital Partners Affiliate Strengthens Market Presence with Acquisition of Koch Separation Solutions
Gracie Gottlieb | 14 August, 2023
In a move to enhance its market presence and improve economies of scale, Sun Capital Partners, Inc. ("Sun Capital"), a leading private investment firm, has announced that its affiliate has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Koch Separation Solutions ("KSS") from various subsidiaries of Koch Engineered Solutions, LLC. The acquisition will position KSS to further expand its offerings and become a preferred partner in the separations industry.
With over 700 employees and more than five decades of experience in separation technologies, KSS is known for its innovative solutions in membrane filtration, ion exchange, evaporators, dryers, and proprietary cheesemaking technologies. The company serves a wide range of industries, including industrial, food, beverage, dairy, and more. Following the completion of the transaction, KSS will continue its operations under the existing management team as a standalone business.
The vision of KSS is to transform the global landscape of separations by driving value creation and sustainability across various markets, including food and beverage, dairy, life science, and industrial sectors. By leveraging its expertise and experience, KSS aims to become a comprehensive solutions provider and a trusted partner to its customers.
The President of KSS, Manny Singh, expressed excitement about the opportunity to work with Sun Capital, stating, "Sun Capital and KSS share a common vision of innovation and continuous improvement to best serve our customers. We are excited about this opportunity as it positions KSS to build upon longstanding relationships while growing our capabilities as a complete solutions provider."
KSS has a rich history in the separations space, originally specializing in membrane filtration for industrial water and wastewater treatment. Over time, the company expanded its offerings and entered new markets through strategic acquisitions. This includes the acquisition of Eco-Tec, a provider of ion exchange equipment, and RELCO, a thermal separation technology provider. These acquisitions have transformed KSS into a fully integrated solutions provider, serving customers globally.
Sun Capital, with its extensive experience in partnering with management teams to accelerate value creation, is committed to supporting KSS as a standalone enterprise. The firm aims to apply its operational resources and expertise to help KSS execute its business plan, drive growth, and assist customers in increasing productivity while meeting sustainability goals.
Commenting on the agreement, Jeremy Stone, Senior Managing Director at Sun Capital, said, "We are very excited to enter into this agreement and look forward to working with the KSS team to support the business as a strong standalone enterprise. We're confident that we can apply that experience and our deep, in-house operational resources to help management execute its business plan, accelerate growth, and further the Company's ability to help customers increase productivity while meeting sustainability goals."
Koch Engineered Solutions, the parent company of KSS, expressed pride in the growth and success of KSS as an industry leader in the separation solutions space. Dave Dotson, President of Koch Engineered Solutions, stated, "Through our recent work with the Sun Capital team, it became apparent that there is an aligned vision with KSS that will take the company to its next level of success."
The acquisition of KSS by Sun Capital is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
