Ava Hoppe | 14 May, 2023
Towle & Co recently filed its 13F for Q3 and Q4 of 2022, revealing significant changes in its holdings. The fund reduced its positions in several companies, while also adding new holdings to its portfolio.
One of the most notable changes was Towle & Co’s decision to reduce its stake in LIBERTY ENERGY INC by 18.5%, selling 224,610 shares. The fund also reduced its holdings in PBF ENERGY INC by 7.9%, selling 58,287 shares.
Despite reducing positions in some companies, Towle & Co added some promising new positions to its portfolio. The fund added 1,971,740 shares of ALBERTSONS COS INC, representing a 20.9% increase in its position. It also established a new position in DESIGNER BRANDS INC, buying 4,320,000 shares.
Towle & Co's top five holdings remained relatively unchanged, with investments in GENERAL MOTORS CO, FORD MTR CO DEL, EASTMAN KODAK CO, ARCELORMITTAL SA LUXEMBOURG, and TERNIUM SA.
Other notable changes include a 38.2% increase in holdings of GAP INC, a 33.5% increase in holdings of MACY’S, INC, and a 29.7% increase in holdings of TAYLOR MORRISON HOME CORP.
The fund also sold its entire positions in three companies: 1 800 FLOWERS COM INC, ARGONAUT GROUP INTL HLDGS LTD, and THE CONTAINER STORE GROUP INC.
These changes suggest that Towle & Co is bullish on the retail sector, while also making moves to capitalize on the growth of ALBERTSONS COS INC. However, the fund also took some profit and closed positions in several companies. It remains to be seen whether these moves will pay off in the long run.
